Introduction
At NarrowApps, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our website or use our services, including our browser extensions.
Simple Voice Recorder
Simple Voice Recorder is a Chrome extension that records audio from your microphone or a browser tab, lets you enhance and export it, and (optionally) upload it to your own Google Drive. This section describes exactly what the extension does with your data.
Your recordings stay on your device
Every recording you make is stored locally on your own computer in the browser's IndexedDB storage. Your audio is never uploaded to, transmitted to, or accessible by NarrowApps. We cannot see, hear, or retrieve your recordings. Deleting a recording in the extension, or removing the extension, removes that audio from your device.
What the extension sends to us
To manage feature access, the extension sends the following to our server at narrowapps.com:
- An anonymous user ID: a random identifier (UUID) generated on your device the first time you use the extension. It is not linked to your name, email, or Google account. It exists only to remember which feature tier you are on.
- Feature tier: whether your installation is on the free or Pro tier.
We do not require you to create an account or provide an email address to use the extension.
Usage analytics
The extension uses PostHog and Google Analytics to collect anonymous product-usage events — for example, that a recording was started, an export completed, or an error occurred. These events are tied only to the anonymous user ID above and are used to fix bugs and improve the product. The content of your recordings is never included in analytics.
Google Drive (optional, Pro)
If you choose to export a recording to Google Drive, the extension requests access using
Google's drive.file scope, which limits it to only the files it creates
— it cannot see or touch your other Drive files. The audio is uploaded directly from your
browser to your Google Drive; it does not pass through NarrowApps servers. This only happens
when you explicitly click to export to Drive.
Payments
If you upgrade to a paid Pro plan, payment is processed by Stripe, our payment provider. NarrowApps does not receive or store your full card details. We store only your subscription status and the identifiers needed to manage your subscription.
Permissions we request
- Microphone / tab audio capture: to record the audio you ask it to record.
- Downloads: to save your exported audio file to your computer.
- Storage: to keep your recordings and settings on your device.
- Identity (Google sign-in): used only for the optional Google Drive export.
What we never do
- We never listen to, store, or share your recordings.
- We never sell your personal data.
- We never track your browsing history or the content of the pages you visit.

- Contact Information: Name, email address, and any message you send through our contact form.
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our website, including pages visited and time spent.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
